On April 12, 1980, Terry Fox set out to make his dream of a
cancer-free tomorrow come true.
After losing his leg to cancer at the age of 18, Terry Fox developed a deep
desire to do his part to help end the suffering of Canadians with cancer. His
Marathon of Hope was the culmination of that desire. And while Terry's plan to
run across Canada was tragically cut short, the momentum of his Marathon
continues. To date, over $350 million dollars has been raised for cancer
research through related initiatives.
Now, on the 25th anniversary of the start of the Marathon of Hope, the Royal
Canadian Mint is proud to honour a Canadian hero, Terry Fox, with a special
circulation one-dollar coin. While Terry is no longer with us, his legacy lives
on in Terry Fox runs held around the world every year. Collect the Terry Fox
coin and help keep Terry's memory - and his mission- alive.
